Sarah Ward is a Senior Pulmonary Rehabilitation Specialist and has been part of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programme at the National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine-East Midlands for the past seven years. Sarah’s role involves managing the integrated Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programme, an individually tailored exercise and education programme for people with respiratory long term conditions; clinical contact including holistic assessment of patients with long term lung conditions, for example functional capacity testing; delivering supervised exercise groups and multidisciplinary education sessions to facilitate symptom self-management. |
Sarah has been working in healthcare for 28 years, and was drawn to working in rehabilitation by her desire to help people regain greater ability, and confidence, in their everyday life. Meeting and working with patients is undoubtedly Sarah’s favourite part of her job, so you can be assured that she will help you to cope with and understand your symptoms, and facilitate your return to activities previously thought not possible.
Sarah believes that the NCSEM is a lovely environment for our patients with plenty of space and equipment to facilitate recovery. Receiving treatment at the NCSEM alleviates additional concerns that come with hospital visits by providing temperature control and free parking.
If you’re a patient joining the programme and are anxious about starting, Sarah is happy to have a chat, either over the phone or in person.
Feedback from previous patients
“For me, it has helped me to have more confidence that I can now do things I had stopped doing in the past. I now know that if I get breathless I can deal with it and carry on.”
“The staff have been extremely helpful and understanding. Their promotion of the benefits of the course and encouragement to enjoy the experience have really enhanced the outcomes of the training.”
Outside of work, Sarah enjoys knitting and playing cricket.
