Dr Emma Baldry, Senior Clinical Research Dietitian at the University of Leicester, will present an NCSEM public lecture this February.
Dr Baldry is a clinical academic and researcher working at the Leicester Diabetes Research Centre. As a registered Dietitian she has ten years of experience working in diverse ethnic communities, with all life stages and wide-ranging nutrition and dietetic needs. Dr Baldry is a specialist in weight and obesity management, focussed on metabolic, obesity-related chronic disease and multimorbidity.
Historically Type 2 diabetes was assumed to be irreversible. Only in the last ten years has it become clearer that it is possible to slow progression of the condition. For some it has also been possible to stop treatment – to achieve remission.
This lecture will discuss the research that has been published, and highlight the most influential studies. It will examine the background to Type 2 diabetes remission, and discuss if remission is feasible for all. By the end of the lecture you will have your own perspective on the topic, and be able to answer the question – Type 2 diabetes reversal: fact or fiction?
