The NCSEM will be hosting a one day conference exploring the science behind motivation, adherence and long-term health. It will examine major perspectives of motivation and their application to healthcare settings, how habits are formed and how intentions can be changed into action.
Please note: This event is now closed for bookings.
The event will take place on the Loughborough University campus on Wednesday 25th September.
The conference is suitable for academics, practitioners working in a health environment or anyone with an interest in how to effectively motivate long-term health behaviour.
Conference highlights include Dr Sally Fenton from the University of Birmingham presenting on otivation for physical activity in clinical populations and Prof. Mark Conner from the University of Leeds discussing the transformation of intention into behaviour.
Prof. Madelynne Arden from Sheffield Hallam University will also speak about habits and automaticity in the context of medication adherence.
Full details of the conference programme can be found here.
The event will be chaired by Dr Ian Taylor, Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Loughborough University. Ian’s research concerns human motivation. He has published widely on processes that drive behaviour and lead to long-term health. The current focus of his work is on investigating the motivational determinants of healthy decision making and consequences of poor quality motivation.
Dr Taylor said: “This event promises to be an informative day where like-minded academics and practitioners can share knowledge and discuss the science behind motivation.
“The event gives us the opportunity to explore motivation in more detail and examine what causes people to make the decisions they do regarding their health.”
