Fit 4 Surgery – a cancer prehabilitation service has restarted its clinics this week following a break due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The service began before lockdown and is a new pilot clinical service to support patients to prepare for major cancer surgery (prehabilitation). Part of the intervention is the provision of supervised exercise.
The Project is managed by Heather Mackinnon a Clinical Academic Physio combining research and clinical practice within the Respiratory Therapy Team at Leicester General Hospital.
Prehabilitation helps patients prepare physically and mentally for surgery, helps to reduce the risk of complications and aids in post-surgery recovery.
