Dr Stephen Bailey, Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Nutrition at Loughborough University, will present an NCSEM public lecture this October.
The lecture will summarise the effects of short term dietary nitrate supplementation on cardiovascular health, particularly blood pressure, muscle function and exercise capacity/performance. The effects will be discussed in healthy adults as well as adults with cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension and heart failure.
Dr Stephen Bailey completed his PhD at the University of Exeter in 2011 where he was then appointed as a Lecturer in Exercise Physiology. He took up his current role as a Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Nutrition at Loughborough University in 2016.
Stephen’s principal area of interest and expertise surrounds nutritional interventions to enhance the synthesis of the physiological signalling molecule, nitric oxide, and the impact of such interventions on cardiovascular health and exercise performance. He also has broader interests in oxidative metabolism and skeletal muscle fatigue.
Stephen has published over 80 original research articles on these topics as well as several invited review articles and book chapters. He has also delivered invited presentations at a number of international conferences.
